Section 508
Section 508 is the portion of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d) requiring federal agencies to meet accessibility standards when buying, developing, maintaining or using information technology. It exists to remove barriers to electronic information for people with disabilities.
Where it applies in our software
- End-user applications and components.
- Reporting applications and components intended for use by the public.
- Maintenance and reporting applications used by local, state and federal agencies.
How we approach it
- Accessibility treated as a component of how a feature works, not as a pass at the end.
- Continual testing and evaluation against the standards in the implementing regulations.
- Full disclosure of the compliance status of our products.
- Conformance with accessibility standards when we build for customers who are themselves subject to Section 508.
